Safety Audits

An audit is a snapshot of the organization’s safety-related activities at any given time and is used to measure either an element of the safety program or the entire safety program. SSNS utilizes a formal document process that has been approved by the Nova Scotia Department of Environment and Labour. It captures key OH&S program elements. Auditors perform the related field activities providing a summary report.This report utilizes a measurable rating system that will contain clear recommendations.

There are three main types of audits and inspections:

Safety Systems Audit
Compliance Audit – Provincial, Federal and International Acts / Regulations
Providing Hazard Assessments and Workplace Inspections

Organizations have SSNS perform third party audits because:

It is part of their Continuous Improvement System
It provides unbiased and new eyes examining processes that may not apply in the changing environment
It will ensure good standing with their Regulator and provide proof of Due Diligence
It is part of the ‘Certificate of Recognition’ program
