Safety Audits
An audit is a snapshot of the organization’s safety-related activities at any given time and is used to measure either an element of the safety program or the entire safety program. SSNS utilizes a formal document process that has been approved by the Nova Scotia Department of Environment and Labour. It captures key OH&S program elements. Auditors perform the related field activities providing a summary report. This report utilizes a measurable rating system that will contain clear recommendations.
There are three main types of audits and inspections:
- Safety Systems Audit
- Compliance Audit – Provincial, Federal and International Acts / Regulations
- Providing Hazard Assessments and Workplace Inspections
Organizations have SSNS perform third party audits because:
- It is part of their Continuous Improvement System
- It provides unbiased and new eyes examining processes that may not apply in the changing environment
- It will ensure good standing with their Regulator and provide proof of Due Diligence
- It is part of the ‘Certificate of Recognition’ program
